What is One Million Tee?

One Million Tee is a start-up for-profit social enterprise which aims to create sustainable businesses and job opportunities in Africa for Africa. One Million Tee is an original concept that initiates to sell 1,000,000 t-shirts. Each tee is unique with a number ranging from 1 to 1,000,000. It is to be sold online with buyers choosing their desired number. One number is only available for one tee.

What is (1MT)’s mission and cause?

One Million Tee’s mission is to be a sustainable project that sells t-shirts and uses it profits to create sustainable business and job opportunities in Africa. To create change that last. The first collection is focused on Africa. We will also contribute to other causes that improve the lives of people and the earth.

Why Africa?

We focus on Africa because we believe real change is coming especially during World Cup South Africa 2010. The time will come when we see how capable and talented the Africans are. All they need is just opportunities.
What Africa really needs are job and job opportunities. When they have a job to earn a living, they have money for food, medicines, and to send their children to school. With education, their children’s lives will change forever and their generations to come. This will be a permanent change that no amount of donations and aid can help.

Who are you?

My name is Edwin Lim, the founder of One Million Tee. I’ve just recently graduated from my degree course and currently working on this project full time. My friend, Tricia, is also working full time on this project.

How did you come up with the idea?

I have to come up with a Final Year Project Brief during my Degree course. If you want to know, I major in Graphic Communication. After reading Seth Godin’s book “The Purple Cow”, I was inspired to do remarkable things, things that are able to make a remark, which will make a difference in other people’s lives. With my passion in designing t-shirt, the One Million Tee idea just came to my mind.
If I can do a project that I love, while fulfilling my dream of helping others, how great can that be!

Which organizations do you work with?

We will work with Organizations that create job opportunities in Africa. We are currently identifying suitable organization to work with. If you think your organization can partner with our project, please contact us.

How long will the project last?

The project will last as long as it is successful. If the first 1,000,000 t-shirts are sold, there will be a next collection. We might go into other projects as well.

By joining (1MT), you have the opportunity to take action to support the initiative in providing job opportunities and improving the lives of African communities. No. (1MT) is a for-profit enterprise thus we do not accept donations however you can donate directly to our partners and beneficiaries. You can be our sponsor or partner so that we can bring benefit for both.
